About the role
Are you looking for an opportunity to learn, contribute, and grow into a leadership role? Sustainable Timber Tasmania is seeking a motivated Assistant Manager to join our Nursery and Seed Centre team, based at our Perth (Launceston) site.
This 12-month fixed-term position offers the chance to support operations, add real value, and build the capability needed to assume long-term management responsibility, with the potential for a permanent opportunity at the end.
Designed for someone ready to step into a hands-on operational environment, this role provides the opportunity to learn from experienced leaders and progressively take on greater responsibility with a view to future leadership of the Nursery and Seed Centre.
Learn and support: Work closely with the Nursery and Seed Centre Manager and Assistant Manager to understand all aspects of operations.
Add value operationally: Assist with day-to-day activities, including inventory management, plant care, scheduling, and staff coordination.
Contribute to continuous improvement: Support reporting, planning, and process enhancements to improve efficiency and outcomes.
Assume responsibility: Gradually take on tasks and decision-making that will prepare you for a potential long-term leadership role.
Team support and mentoring: Assist with coaching and guiding staff and contractors to maintain high standards and operational excellence.
Desired Skills and Experience
About you
Experience in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field (formal qualifications desirable but practical experience valued).
Some prior leadership or supervisory experience in a nursery or similar operational environment.
Organised, proactive, and ready to take initiative in a fast-paced, team-focused setting.
A desire to learn, support, and grow, while contributing real value to the business.
Commitment to sustainability, operational excellence, and workplace safety.
